Luck by Chance

Zoya Akthar’s directorial debut, Luck by Chance, is a story about the struggle and raise of budding actors Vikram Jaisingh and Sona Mishra – both personally and professional.

Vikram Jaisingh (Farhan Akthar) is a charmer, a go-getter. He knows to use people to his benefit.
Sona Mishra (Konkana Sen Sharma) is an opposite. She is ambitious but values people and human emotions.

And this movie is all about their lives and how it changes because of the changes they make.

The movie was released in January 2009 and since that day, I have longed to watch it; more because of the positive reviews and critical acclaim. I waited too long because I could watch it only off late and I was bowled over.

Farhan Akthar and Konkana Sen Sharma are brilliant. Their subtlety and rawness makes this movie a delight - a real treat to any movie buff. As an add-on the movie is about movies. What else can I ask?

Further Rishi Kapoor as Rolly, the producer is impeccable. His mannerism is casual and carefree. Juhi Chawli as his wife is charming. Also Dimple Kapadia as Neena, a yesteryear heartthrob and Isha Shervani, as daughter of Neena and debutant actor Nikki, has delivered an understated yet realistic performance.

However, the most attractive aspect of this film is its story, narrative and screenplay. It is strong and it is on-the-face most of the times. The dialogs are simple yet carry a poetic charm. It carries in-depth meaning and sits perfectly into the situations.

I particularly loved the dialogs spoken by Karan Johar and Shahrukh Khan. They come across as themselves and when they say it, it is more believable and relatable.

Oh yes! There are several surprises in this amazing package. We get to see glimpses of Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan (who actually plays the role of Zaffar), Abhishek Bachan, John Abraham, Akshay Kumar, Manish Malhothra, Shabana Azmi, Javed Akthar, Kareena Kapoor, Rani Mukherji, Ranbir Kapoor and on and on.

The movie is a straight from the heart effort and it will touch your hearts. I know its almost 5 years since its release. But I say that experience the good things; better late than never!
